The Evil Within is totally disrespectful to barbed wire, you guys

The video’s parodical, but what if people were actually offended?

The Evil Within looks like it has the potential to make me giggle with devilish glee, so I really hope it doesn’t disappoint. Unfortunately, I have to take issue with its negative portrayal of barbed wire. Luckily, The Onion (in conjunction with Bethesda) has my back on this, having issued a video that gives a succinct rundown of the problem.

You see, The Evil Within implies that barbed wire is used only by “murderers,” which as we should all know by now is simply not true. It’s setting back the fencing tool at least twenty years, and as someone who champions barbed wire as a fantastic alternative to rope, scarves, or other materials, I’m hoping the developers see the error in their ways. According to the video, they will be “extolling the virtues” of barbed wire in The Evil Within, so don’t think for a moment I won’t be checking to see if this is true once I finally get to play.

All joking aside, this is an interesting bit of PR for the game. I vastly prefer it to the 30-second clip of people screaming while playing. Do people actually get that scared? No. No, they don’t. Don’t even play.
