The Dracula Files coming to PC, DS and Wii, also Blackula

Ever since that moment of sinous thrill when I thought that Gamecock was bringing a Blackula game to gamers worldwide, I find I react more strongly than before when a game even mentions vampires. What can I say, I really wanted that game. Camp factor would have made it an instant classic, in my not-so-humble opinion.

Anyway, casual company eGames has announced a new title called The Dracula Files, which is coming out for PC, Wii and DS later this summer. The game is a seek and find adventure, which I know some of you are going to turn up your noses at, but I have a dirty confession to make: ever since I played Popcap’s Escape Rosecliff Island, I’ve come to the shameful realization that while I may not care for the average seek and find game, I’m madly in love with that one. Therefore, I’ve become a little bit more open minded about them, even though they are about the simplest game you can imagine.

Where all this gets even better is that there’s a Twitter page for the game, it’s under Vladmir Draco and contains tweets such as “Bah! In-coffin laptop battery charge is dying. Someone will pay for this!”. Maybe I’m easily amused, but I love this type of campaign to promote a game. The less seriously you take yourself, the better. After all, we’re talking about videogames here, not rocket science.

Social Media Campaign Helps Launch Vampire Adventure Second Half 2009

LANGHORNE, Pa., May 13, 2009 – Casual games developer and publisher eGames, Inc. (Pink Sheets: EGAM) today announced the ongoing development of The Dracula Files, a new hidden object adventure game franchise pitting a new generation of vampire hunters against the resurrected lord of the undead. With an anticipated launch in late summer 2009, versions of the first installment of The Dracula Files are currently planned for PC, Nintendo DS™, and Wii™.

“We are extremely pleased with the level of enthusiasm our publishing and portal partners have expressed for The Dracula Files since introducing early versions of the game at the Game Developers Conference,” said eGames VP Sales and Marketing Rich Siporin. “We look forward to sharing the game’s progress with casual game fans everywhere through our social media campaign.”

As part of The Dracula Files launch campaign, popular casual game review site Gamezebo.com will host a bi-weekly developer blog beginning this week. Additional updates on the game will be provided on The Dracula Files Twitter page at www.twitter.com/draculafiles and Facebook® page.

With the reemergence of the bloodthirsty count after 100 years, The Dracula Files finds the descendants of the Harker and Van Helsing families banding together once more to contest the lord of the vampires. Spanning the globe in search of cursed objects and holy relics, the reluctant heroes will face werewolves, vampires, poltergeists, and more in their quest to return Dracula to the grave forever.

“We are excited to introduce a unique spin on the Dracula legend to casual game and vampire enthusiasts everywhere,” said eGames Product Manager and designer Greg Zesinger. “Through the ongoing developer diary on Gamezebo, Twitter, and Facebook pages, we look forward to interacting with our fans and introducing them to the diabolical Vladimir Draco. We recommend gamers start sharpening their stakes and gathering garlic now, because Draco and his minions will soon be on the prowl.”
