Now I can go sailing again

A few weeks ago, I spoke about how BioShock Remastered was pretty crappy on PC. 2K had announced it was working on a patch, but never gave out a specific date. Thankfully, the wait for a playable release is now over.

Issued today, the new patches for BioShock and BioShock 2 Remastered feature a plethora of tweaks that should make the games playable, along with improving the general quality of life for each title. Along with FOV sliders and an option to disable mouse acceleration, users can now finally select the output of audio for the first game.

The fixes are as follows:

BioShock

  • Field-Of-View is now adjustable from 75 to 130 in the Graphics Options Menu.
  • 21:9 Resolutions are now available. UI supports 2 modes (Stretch or Centered) at these resolutions.
  • Resolved several graphical issues on NVidia hardware
  • New Graphics options available for lower-end machines
  • Mouse Button 4 and 5 assignments fixed
  • Mouse Icon Size is now adjustable and will scale with resolution.
  • Several improvements have been made to Mouse Sensitivity, Threshold, and Buffering
  • Settings will no longer automatically reset on improperly shutting down BioShock
  • Speaker Mode should now be selectable from the Audio Options Menu
  • Fixed an initialization bug with Audio System.
  • Miscellaneous bug fixes

BioShock 2

  • Field-Of-View is now adjustable from 75 to 130 in the Graphics Options Menu.
  • 21:9 Resolutions are now available. UI supports 2 modes (Stretch or Centered) at these resolutions.
  • Mouse Button 4 and 5 assignments fixed.
  • Mouse Icon Size is now adjustable and will scale with resolution.
  • Several improvements have been made to Mouse Sensitivity, Threshold, and Buffering
  • DirectX 11 Performance improvements
  • Fixed several graphical issues with Occlusion Culling.
  • Miscellaneous bug fixes

I particularly like that you can make adjusts to the HUD. Playing in 21:9 resolution and having the HUD stick to the edges of the screen would drive me nuts. I wouldn’t want to look so far away for such crucial information, but that won’t be an issue anymore. Now if only I had a monitor capable of 2560×1080.
