The 80s computer sounds of Strange Light Under My Bed

I have been all about the chiptunes lately! Is that a problem for anyone? I didn’t think so!

The Ubiktune net label has just released a new album entitled Strange Light Under My Bed. However, these aren’t the kinds of chiptunes you are accustomed to. No 2A03 / VRC6 NES sounds, no FM synth, no Game Boy blips and bloops… nuh uh. This time, it’s all about retro computers.

On this five-track album, musician Yerzmyey pulled magic out of the ZX Spectrum 128K, ZX Spectrum 48K, Amiga 500, Atari 520 ST, and Atari Falcon 030 audio chips. Then he layered on psychedelic recording effects for a sound reminiscent of German electronica artists such as Tangerine Dream, Ash Ra Tempel, and Klaus Schulze. I personally think the music would work as the score to an early 80s sci-fi film.
