TGS 2007: Dynasty Warriors developer approves of Dualshock 3. Also, DW6 details

Dynasty Warriors 6 developer Takashi Morinaka expressed his pleasure at Sony’s decision to create the Dualshock 3 and bring rumble to the PlayStation 3. With regards to the tilt function of the SIXAXIS, Morinaka simply said “I prefer rumble.” Of course, when you develop Dynasty Warriors, the last thing you need are more controls. Remember, the square button is the win button, kids.

Morinaka seemed a little bemused at Sony’s way of working, clearly not too aware of Sony’s legal trouble when it came to the Dualshock. “I guess there is some reason Sony did it this way around, but I don’t know what it is,” he said. At least it’s in now, which is good news for fans of vibration around the world.

As you know, I’m incredibly excited for Dynasty Warriors 6, and Morinaka also had further details on the game as he showed off a demo. For those who complain about the AI in previous games, Morinaka claimed that soldiers will be a lot more intelligent. For instance, you can surprise enemy troops from behind and demoralize them, but do it enough times and they might adapt, learning where to expect your attacks. Soldiers will react distinctly this time around, not just act like mindless Borg. Good news for people who don’t like to be circled endlessly by the peons.

Furthermore, it seems that online play is not going to be a feature, although Morinaka has expressed an interest in using the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live. Hopefully that means we’ll see something added in the future, but for now, we’ll only have leaderboards for the game’s Challenge Mode when the game’s released in early 2008. Laym.
