TGS 08: XBLA invasion part 2: New screens and more specifics

To follow-up on my brief coverage from yesterday of the Xbox LIVE Arcade games being shown at the Tokyo Game Show, now I’ve got screenshots and more concrete details to share with the rest of you.

Let’s start off with Arkanoid Live (coming in 2009), an absolute classic. Besides the obvious cosmetic changes that have been made, the game is packing 120 levels, multiplayer (co-op, versus), and various customization options. As a big fan of the title from the 80s, I’ll be keeping an eye on this.

Arguably the most exciting one of the bunch, R-Type Dimensions (winter 08) bundles R-Type and R-Type II with some cool new additions, including: 2-player online co-op, Infinite game mode (I can finally win!), stat tracking, and the option to play the game in classic 2D and in 2.5D. Consider me sold.

After the break, we’ll give you lowdown on Space Invaders Extreme and Meteos Wars.

Another Taito game, eh? The hip DS/PSP re-imagining of one of the most iconic videogames ever, Space Invaders Extreme (2009), is also now gearing up for release on XBLA.

This port will see exclusive visualizers — created by Jeff Minter (Space Giraffe) of all people — as well as multiplayer modes like Survivor, Score Attack, and even co-op for up to 4 players that has you tackling Arcade Mode with a single pool of lives. Groovy!

Finally, we end with Meteos Wars (fall 08), a game that was announced prior to the Tokyo Game Show. If that name doesn’t do anything for you, chances are you missed out on the excellent DS puzzler, Meteos.

I don’t think it even needs to be said, but Meteos Wars has head-to-head multiplayer (online, of couse) and is basically just a revamped version of the DS game; trust me though, that’s far from a bad thing.

But what about Metal Slug 7 and The King of Fighters ’98 Ultimate Match, you ask? While I’d love to talk more about those games, no new information regarding either title has come out yet, and likely won’t for a long time. Sucks, doesn’t it?
