Team17’s Worms 2: Armageddon gets an explodey new trailer

You know what’s fun? Worms, that’s what. You know what’s not fun? The very first time you ever play Worms.

My very first experience with Worms was an absolute disaster — I happened to be visiting Jim when he still lived in London and booted up his 360 to play Worms Armageddon on XBLA. I embarrassed myself in front of dozens of Jim’s friends and quickly drowned my sorrows in Fosters and French fries. On that same trip, I ended up in a blue dress. Don’t ask.

Luckily, once I got back stateside, my friends and I tracked down a Dreamcast and the first Worms, I learned to play the damned thing,  and we had a blast.

All this just to tell you guys that Team17’s sequel, Worms 2: Armageddon, will be hitting XBLA next month, and I’ve got a new trailer (below the fold) to prove it. Unlike most trailers, this one offers quite a bit of gameplay footage, since there’s no moody protagonist with a dark secret to introduce. That isn’t saying much, however, since the game consists almost solely of blowing stuff up. Like Red Faction: Guerrilla, but sprite-ier.

Worms 2: Armageddon will introduce some new weapons and levels, features a giant single-player campaign, and will use your NXE avatars in some way. Although there’s no word of a PSN release, it should debut on XBLA some time next month. Seeing as the original Worms is still one of the most popular games on Xbox Live, how many of you guys are looking forward to its sequel? According to Conrad’s GDC preview of Worms 2: Armageddon, it seems to be shaping up quite nicely.
