Not to be confused with the latest seizure-inducing psychedelic hitting the streets, celebrated indie shoot-em-up Ether Vapor is on its way to Steam, GamersGate GameTap, and GameStop this week.
On Friday June 29, you’ll be able legally purchase and download this re-release of one of Japan’s most celebrated indie — doujin to you weaboos — shooters, courtesy of publisher Nyu Media. Ether Vapor Remaster brings leaderboards, four playable modes, HD visuals, and English text to the table.
I’ve never played Ether Vapor but I’ve heard a lot of great things about it over the years (it was originally released in 2008). Now, if only this happened more often with beloved indie gems coming out of Asia. Too often, piracy is the only option for Western genre fans, so it’s nice to see indie publishers come in and help localize these games. If you are a fan of the genre, lay down some cash on this game and support the little guys. If things work out, maybe Nyu Media will bring over the remarkable Crimzon Clover in time.
And remember: Say no to drugs. Or at least taking drugs anally. It just ain’t right!
