Insomniac Games just dropped an awesome new cinematic trailer for Marvel’s Wolverine, the PS5 exclusive coming later this year.
The new “Ain’t No Hero” trailer shows Wolverine at his best, slicing and dicing, killing and maiming, and also getting his ass kicked but getting back up thanks to his regenerative healing. But it also shows someone new.
Throughout the trailer, Wolverine is surviving battle after battle by holding on to what matters most to him: a photograph of what looks like him and an unknown redheaded female character, who looks a bit like Jean Grey, and also a lot like Insomniac’s version of Mary-Jane Watson from their Spider-Man games.
He’s seen fighting with and against various enemies (like his archnemesis Sabertooth), but the big reveal takes place at the end of the trailer, as Wolverine is fighting against ninjas: Lady Deathstrike. A common foe of Wolverine and the X-Men, Lady Deathstrike is the daughter of the scientist who pioneered the adamantium-bonding procedure that transformed Logan as part of the Weapon X program.
Lady Deathstrike, real name Yuriko Oyama, slices Wolverine’s face up in their battle. Naturally, this pisses him off, and the trailer comes to a violent and bloody conclusion. And that’s why I’m most excited for this game, because it doesn’t seem to be shying away from the violence that an indestructible, animalistic mutant with unbreakable metal claws leaves in his wake.
Unfortunately for Insomniac, the comments for the trailer on social media and YouTube are still being dominated by the discussion surrounding Sony’s decision to ditch physical games in 2028. And that’s on Sony, and no one else.
Players could be talking about how cool it is that this trailer will be playing before showings of The Odyssey in movie theaters this weekend, but instead, they’re talking about the end of physical games. Sony has yet to comment further since its announcement a few weeks ago.

Marvel’s Wolverine launches for PS5 on Sept. 15.
