Super Smash Land is awesome and free!

Do you love the Super Smash Bros. series but don’t actually own a Nintendo console? (Actually, that sounds really unlikely, kinda like saying “D’you like Blizzard games but have never owned a PC?”) In the event you haven’t played Nintendo’s frantic, over-the-top, guest star-filled brawler, then you’re in luck.

PC indie developer Dan Fornace has created an 8-bit “de-make” of Smash Brothers called Super Smash Land, which re-imagines Smash Bros. as an original Game Boy title. Watching the trailer above made me think this could’ve easily been a real GB title back in the day — it looks just spot on. Dan seems to have absolutely nailed the look and feel of the era perfectly. The best bit about the game? It’s free and you can download it now!

In an interview with Piki Geek, Dan says that although there’s only four fighters right now, he’s adding Mega Man and a mystery female character to round out the roster to six playable classic characters. This is looking like a real fun project; it looks the part and sounds great (the soundtrack is available via the website on a “pay what you want” basis) and I can’t wait to give it a go.
