During its previously announced stream this morning, Bandai Namco announced the newest entry into the Super Robot Wars franchise. Titled Super Robot Wars X, the mecha crossover will be releasing on March 29, 2018 in Japan, while a version with English subtitles will be released in Southeast Asia on April 26 the same year. The game will be coming to the PlayStation 4 and Vita with physical and digital versions.

You can check out the trailer in all its glory below.

Super Robot Wars X will feature the following series:

  • Aura Battler Dunbine
  • Brave Express Mightgaine
  • Buddy Complex
  • Buddy Complex Final Act: Into the Skies of Tomorrow
  • Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion R2
  • Cross Ange: Rondo of Angels and Dragons
  • Gurren Lagann
  • Gurren Lagann the Movie: The Lights in the Sky are Stars
  • Mazinkaiser
  • Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam
  • Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ
  • Mobile Suit Gundam: Char’s Counterattack
  • Mobile Suit Gundam: Char’s Counterattack – Beltorchika’s Children
  • Mobile Suit Gundam F91
  • Mobile Suit Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz
  • Mobile Suit Crossbone Gundam: The Steel Seven
  • Gundam Reconguista in G
  • Mashin Hero Wataru
  • Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water
  • New Story of Aura Battler Dunbine
  • The Unchallengable Daitarn 3
  • True Mazinger Edition Z: The Impact!
  • True Mazinger ZERO vs. Great General of Darkness

Needless to say, it’s a fairly large roster with a grand total of 23 works participating. Of the returning series, a large number of them are returning from the Z3 games and V, such as Gurren Lagann, almost every Gundam series besides F91 and Beltorchika’s Children, and Cross Ange. They appear to be using a mix of new and old assets however, so the reusage isn’t too bad.

Those that purchase early-run copies of the game in Japan will receive additional bonuses.

    • Special Chapter 0 Scenario: “Journey of the Vow”
    • Present Scenario: “Special Starter Pack”
    • Super Robot Wars X “Original Theme”
    • Cybuster and Masaki available from the beginning of the game

For those wondering, Cybuster and Masaki are an original  mecha and character respectively, that debuted in Super Robot Taisen 2 way back on the Famicom. You may recognize it from the two Original Generation games that Atlus localized on the Game Boy Advance. Much like Huckebein and Grungust in V, you will still have access to Cybuster without the bonus, just at a later stage in the game with minimal to no impact on the plot.

Finally, Japan will be getting a “Premium Anime Song & Sound Edition” which will include 35 additional songs. Now the following are not remixes or covers, they are the original deal.

    • “Come Here! Daitarn 3” by Makoto Fujiwara (from The Unchallengable Daitarn 3)
    • “Dunbine Tobu” by MIO (from Aura Battler Dunbine)
    •  “Uchuu wo Kakeru ~Zeta no Hatsudou” (from Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam)

    • “Neppuu! Shuppuu! Cybuster” by JAM Project (from Masou Kishin: :The Lord Of Elemental)

Don’t feel too left out about it, as if X is anything like previous games, you can connect a USB device and use custom BGM.

Needless to say, I’m very excited for this entry. A lot of entries I liked in Z3 and V return, and the back-to-back reveals of the return of Hi-Nu Gundam and Mazinkaiser had me grinning like an idiot. Definitely up there for games I’m looking forward to in 2018, if not my most anticipated one now.
