Super Mario Odyssey’s VR update won’t require Labo VR

Kind of an oxymoron, right?

Nintendo has revealed that Super Mario Odyssey’s upcoming VR content won’t actually require Labo VR to be played. Similar to the theater mode option that was announced last week, the “VR Experiences” content in the Cap, Luncheon, and Seaside Kingdoms is fully playable without the cardboard headset. While it likely will lose some of its charms, no one is being left out in the cold on this.

As for what people with Labo VR gain, it will be 360-degree views of each area Mario is running around in. Similar to how Breath of the Wild utilizes VR, you can move your head to manipulate the camera or turn the option off, which is nice. It should be a fun little gimmick if nothing else.

As a reminder, Super Mario Odyssey and Breath of the Wild will receive their VR updates on April 25, 2019.
