Sunless Sea voyages through terror, mutiny, and insanity

With a splash of cannibalism for good measure

Independent studio Failbetter Games is working on its second big project, after its browser game Fallen London. Set in the same universe, Sunless Sea puts the player at the helm of a ship on a sea fraught with darkness, danger, and dearth. The title is focused on telling the stories of the various crew members on board, while they face almost Lovecraftian horrors that can lead to mutiny or worse.

On the game’s Kickstarter page, Failbetter cites the likes of FTL: Faster Than Light and Don’t Starve as influences, among others. Combining those with promises of insanity and cannibalism makes for a pretty good elevator pitch; the project is more than halfway to its funding goal of £60,000, only a few days into the campaign.
