There’s a reason why, up until recently, I have been unable to competently play Street Fighter II. It’s hard to learn a fighting game’s mechanics when you are somewhat new to the genre and the majority of those playing online are simply unstoppable in comparison.
Thanks to my good friends Brad and Zombutler being at a comparable skill level in Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix, I finally started “getting” the game. Realizing that not everyone has friends to practice with, Capcom decided to potentially open up Street Fighter IV to a slew of new players by including a deep training mode.
“Trial Mode,” as it’s called, attempts to teach beginners both the basic combos and even technique itself. With six levels of trials for each character, you better believe the final levels will be demanding of even the most skilled players.
But will it help? Capcom senior community manager Seth Killian promises that if you manage to complete Trial Mode, you “will be a legitimate threat in competition.” Sadly, I think I might be the first person to prove him wrong.
