Bringing out the artistry in goofy film
This tweet by Glitch Ritual reliably turned up several times a day in my Twitter feed over the holiday weekend and so I must share it.

It’s a pretty simple trick with VLC player’s settings (not a specifically made black and white version) and it only looks that good because, hey, Street Fighter (1994) isn’t all bad. It’s got Kylie Minogue, after all. But that great composition and lighting, we can definitely give much of that credit to cinematographer William Fraker, who was also the director of photography on classics like Rosemary’s Baby and Bullitt.
And because we’re talking movies: Bone Tomahawk, which one of you reminded me of in the comments last week, well, I went and watched it and it is good. A slow burn, traditional style western (in the vein of the Coen’s True Grit) with a gruesome twist. It and Cop Car are two of my lowkey highlight releases from this year.
Now I’m going to go back to writing Street Fighter noir fan-fiction.
