Steam may soon allow you to hide games from your friends

You know exactly which ones...

If you have some *ahem* questionable games in your Steam library, an answer may soon be inbound. There’s a distinct possibility that the Valve client could introduce a feature that will allow you to hide some of your more embarrassing choices.

That’s according to a screenshot from SteamDB creator Pavel Djundik. The image shows a drop-down menu in Steam with an option to select “Mark as Private.” With such a feature, I can finally download Hatoful Boyfriend without fear of reprisal.

Of course, it should be mentioned that, at the time of writing, this has yet to be confirmed. However, given that this comes from SteamDB – a third-party site that chronicles all things related to Steam – I’m hopeful it will come to fruition.

Not here to judge

There are some, shall we say, less-than-chaste video games available through Steam’s vast library of choices. As such, it seems pretty clear that the (potential) ability to hide certain ones from your friends is almost certainly motivated by the same reason Microsoft created an option to hide files and folders on Windows.

There is, after all, an Adults Only tag in the client, so it’s not exactly a stretch to assume that – were such a feature to be implemented – there may be an uptick in people less shy about purchasing games of this nature. Whether it would also disable the pop-up that lets your friends know what you’ve just booted up remains to be seen.

As the head honcho of modern PC gaming, Steam is consistently being updated with everything from small backend tweaks to substantial UI overhauls. As such, some might argue that a “porn hider” is long overdue.
