Steam is blowing up, exceeds 15 million accounts

Congratulations are in order for Valve, as they’ve announced that Steam “has surpassed 15 million accounts and realized year-over-year sales growth of 158% through the holiday season.”

If you aren’t one of the millions of gamers with a Steam account, you probably think that PC gaming is on its way out and will magically disappear any day now. Fortunately, that isn’t the case — so long as people continue to not like paying for online gaming and prefer the mouse/keyboard setup to a standard gamepad.

Steam members should be pleased to know that the future of the platform is looking bright: “We are accelerating our release of new functionality in the next year as well as finding new ways to work with our partners such as the release of Steamworks, which allows them to bring the many benefits of Steam to their packaged products,” says Gabe Newell.

Oh, and while we’re on the subject, make sure you check out the Destructoid Steam Group. You’ll be happy you did.
