State of Decay: Year One Survival Edition debut trailer, releases April 28

GOTY 2013, if you don’t mention The Last of Us to me

State of Decay was one of those pleasant surprises back in 2013. Sure, the sandbox/RPG-lite horror game was a little rough, but it was an intense experience full of free flow situations, base building, and likable survivors. Undead Labs was also keen to hear fan feedback, refining its ideas with each patch, and eventually producing the excellent State of Decay: Lifeline. Since then, it has sold over a million copies on both Xbox and PC. That’s a lot of clams, so inevitably here comes State of Decay: Year One Survival Edition, a remaster for the Xbox One and Steam.

It’s the original game in 1080p, plus the Breakdown and Lifeline DLCs, along with exclusive weapons, vehicles, and characters; some of which are unfortunately pre-order bonuses. Not that you end up using half this stuff, anyway. As a seasoned SoD pro, all you need is a bladed weapon, a semi-auto rifle, and a getaway truck to see you right (or just play a levelled up Marcus or Maya).

So if you want to dip back in for a smoother, definitive experience (in which case you can get a 33% discount), or you’re new to this Dead Rising-meets-XCOM-meets-GTA world of survival horror, State of Decay: YOSE will be available April 28 worldwide.
