Starfield preloading is live on Steam

It's a huge download.

After several years of teasers and delays, Starfield‘s release date is almost upon us. If you’re planning to play on Xbox Series X/S or you purchased your PC version on Windows Store, preloading has been available since August 17. Steam players had to wait a little longer, but preloading has finally opened.

It’s a good idea to preload this massive game

You’re advised to take advantage of the chance to preload if you want to play as soon as possible. The preload alone weighs a hefty 116GB, which could take a while to download for those with less-than-stellar internet speeds. By dealing with the preloading now, you make it easier to start playing when launch day hits.

If you purchase the regular version of Starfield, you’ll finally be able to explore the Settled Systems on September 6. For those who can’t wait that long, the Constellation Edition and Premium Edition are also available, and they both grant you early access from September 1. Fortunately, if you bought the Standard Edition and change your mind, an upgrade to Premium Edition is available.

It’s a large game as it is, and it may grow bigger. The first story expansion, titled ‘Shattered Space’ has been revealed, and owners of the Constellation Edition and Premium Edition will have access to it when it launches, though it hasn’t been given a release date yet.
