Starfield exceeds one million concurrent players, because of course it does

In other news: water is wet.

Is there anybody out there who didn’t think Starfield would be an immense hit the yoctosecond it released? It became Steam’s top game before it even officially launched. Now it’s been declared that Bethesda’s anticipated sci-fi RPG has surpassed one million concurrent players.

That’s according to a recent Twitter post from Head of Xbox, Phil Spencer. According to the exec, this number was “exceeded” today, just one day after Starfield‘s full release. It should be noted that this is across all platforms. And by “all platforms,” he means the two that the game is available on.

It shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone that it’s doing incredibly well, especially so soon after it launched. In fact, if you look at the data on SteamDB, you can see that over 170,000 people are currently playing on PC at the time of writing. Of course, these numbers are changing all the time and could easily spike once we hit the weekend.

Sucks to be any other game releasing this month

After more than a decade of being in the pipeline (from Todd Howard’s initial pitch to the final release), the hype seems to be worth it. Starfield is receiving great reviews pretty much across the board.

It’s got its faults, of course. It’s a Bethesda game after all, but one that seems less buggy than things like Skyrim or Fallout 76. In the end, one million concurrent players across Steam and Xbox is a mighty milestone, even for the big guns of the gaming world.

Right. That’s the Starfield stuff done. When’s The Elder Scrolls 6 coming out, Todd?
