StarCraft’s biggest jerk fired for being a jerk

Greg ‘Idra’ Fields released from team Evil Geniuses

Greg Fields, more commonly known as Idra in the StarCraft community, was let go from the Evil Geniuses StarCraft II team yesterday after some comments that were essentially the straw that broke the camel’s back. Idra has been a member of the Evil Geniuses team since 2010 and has always been known for his premature rage quits from matches that were far from lost, and never typing “gg” (good game) before leaving. Not exactly a “class act” persona, let’s say.

The news came as a shock to just about everyone in the community, considering Idra and EG have become synonymous with each other over the past three years. He is a popular, yet divisive personality that I hope finds something that he really wants to do in the near future. He has always said he hates StarCraft II and would like to continue his education, and if he decides to quit the game for a while or forever, I really hope he takes a deep breath and enjoys his future.

Here is a video from the show “State of the Game,” starring one of Idra’s teammates (and captain of EG) Geoff “InControl”Robinson. At around the 7:20 mark, Geoff receives the news about Idra being let go, and announces it on the show. Shortly afterwards, they have to take a break to allow him to collect his thoughts. It clearly has affected him greatly and Idra will be missed by both his teammates and the community, at least for now.

And here is day[9]’s take on the whole thing:
