People love Star Citizen and are willing to show it with their wallets. Chris Roberts’ giant space game managed to raise $1 million in just a week, causing it to pass the $25 million mark. This unlocked another one of their stretch goals, an “enhanced alpha.” This enhanced alpha will allow them to have another 50,000 players try an early build of the the game.

Chris Roberts unveiled the next stretch goal: adding Banu Merchantman to the game, which will unlock should they reach $27 million in funding. This is a race of space traders, and they want to flesh them out more and “offer players a completely different way of experiencing their universe.”

Chris also made sure to clarify that these stretch goals weren’t “feature creep,” and that these are “elements we’ve been building and planning that will be all that more impressive with additional resources. In essence, you’re putting things we’ve already discussed for the future into development now.”

I loved playing Wing Commander on my Amiga, and I can’t wait to play this. I imagine that it will consume many hours of my life, and I am more than happy with that thought.
