Square Enix makes the first episode of Life is Strange permanently free

You won’t have to rewind time to make good on this new offer from Square Enix. Starting tomorrow, Life is Strange episode one is free on all platforms, and it looks like it’ll stay that way forever. Not a bad deal!

The first installment, Chrysalis, focuses heavily on world-building and getting to know protagonist Max Caulfield. It’s an episode that emphasizes exploration, and that’s where some of Life is Strange‘s finest moments come from.

In our review in January 2015, I gave Chrysalis an 8.5 and said that it’s an introduction that really sets the table more than anything else. That’s usually what you can expect from a first episode. Just don’t be surprised if you want to dig deeper after playing this.
