Square Enix kicked Sony’s ass in Call of Duty: Black Ops III

CoD Japanese publisher rep-resent, rep-resent

Fun fact I realized during my first Tokyo Game Show: Square Enix publishes Call of Duty in Japan. Or at least did, until Sony ended up publishing Black Ops III in Japan on PS3 and PS4 (Microsoft did the same on Xbox in Japan).

And whatever deal Sony brokered to make PlayStation the official console of Call of Duty means it makes a weird kind of sense that Sony Computer Entertainment Japan and Asia President Atsushi Morita challenged Square Enix CEO Yosuke Matsuda in Black Ops III.

Unfortunately, the new Japanese Call of Duty publisher was trounced by spurned Square Enix. The proceedings were live streamed on Nico Nico and uploaded by Dual Shockers. The two execs lead their teams in the first two matches. Morita went 4/21 and 5/21, Matsuda went a slightly more admirable 6/19 and 13/21. The two then let their underlings play four more matches with Square taking three of four and one draw.
