Square Enix is the latest publisher to announce an E3 press conference

It’ll be a busy E3

E3 press conferences are traditionally held by the three big console manufacturers. However, videogame publishers have been known to host their own when their upcoming line-ups call for it. Electronic Arts and Ubisoft are the two most notable examples, as they both have relatively long-running histories of E3 pressers.

Square Enix is joining that list, at least for 2015.  For the first time in three years, the Japanese publisher is holding a dedicated press conference at E3. It’s set to take place Tuesday, June 16 at 9 a.m. Pacific — right before the show officially opens later that day.

The time-slot also coincides with one that’s usually held by Nintendo for its press conference (or large-scale Direct). It’s unknown if this will cause conflict, as Nintendo’s plans aren’t yet announced.

What this does signify is big internal expectations for Square Enix this calendar year. That’s likely the only way the publisher could justify setting aside the capital to hold what’ll likely be an expensive show. Known titles on the horizon are Rise of the Tomb Raider, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, Just Cause 3, and Final Fantasy XV.

With this announcement, E3’s shaping up to be a busier year than usual — at least with regard to press conferences. Bethesda’s another publisher that’s holding its own event, also indicating that it’ll likely have a few game reveals. Of course, that’s all in addition to the big players that are present every year.
