Square Enix: 1.8 million user accounts compromised

Recommended Videos

Yesterday we told you that the Square Enix Members server was hacked into, and that user accounts may have been compromised. Today we have a clearer picture of the damage. NHK says that 1.8 million user accounts may have been affected by this hacking. Compare that to the 2.1 million total members of the service worldwide. According to Andriasang, the report says that the intrusion was found during an inspection of the service’s servers on the 13th of this month. The service has been down for two days now.

While it’s possible that personal information (names, email addresses and phone numbers) from 1.8 million accounts may have leaked out, Square Enix is certain that no credit card numbers were accessed, as this server does not contain credit card information.
