Spore expected to sell two million units

Colin Sebastian, Lazard Capital Markets Senior Vice President, outlined his Electronic Arts sales expectations to gamesindustry.biz. Sebastian expects Spore to sell two million units in the US and that there will be 650,000 sign-ups for Warhammer Online. In addition to those September sales, Sebastian also predicts a decent August for EA by citing that back-to-school shopping may have had an impact in the month.

Sebastian cautioned hardware sales might have taken a slide due to the poor supply of the Wii and the transition to new SKUs for both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

While I agree that hardware will probably sell somewhat poorly and that Spore will take off, I have to disagree with the notion that back-to-school shopping has led to increased sales of some titles. When I was younger, my mother would have rapped my jaw if I stood in the videogame aisle pointing at Madden instead of picking out a new Trapper Keeper and pencils.
