Splatoon might just be Nintendo’s most promising new game

Trippy single-player mode revealed

When Nintendo announced its wacky four-on-four shooter Splatoon at E3, I thought it looked cool — spraying ink on the battlefield and then swimming around in said ink is cool — but I didn’t freak out like some people. Having now seen today’s Nintendo Direct footage, I’m freaking out.

We’re shown an eclectic sampling of the game’s single-player campaign, which was previously announced but not detailed, and wow does it look great. So fresh. Those octopi enemies are delightfully strange and I just want to inject that music into my brain already.

Splatoon is coming to Wii U in Q2 2015. More of this please, Nintendo.
