Sony’s 3D head-worn visor thing costs $800, supports PS3

I saw this silly head-mounted personal 3D display earlier this year at CES. It was at Sony’s booth, where I was too excited by the glasses-free 3D to care about some cyclops visor thing. It seemed like something too far away to care about, but now it’s really coming out.

The HMZ-T1 was announced at IFA in Berlin last month and now it’s on Sony’s UK store page. It’s really happening. No pricing is listed yet, but the last we heard it would be around $800.

Its dual OLED HD screens and virtual surround sound give you the theater experience, and a processor lets you connect your PS3 for some personal gaming. Sony says that “each OLED screen can be adjusted to suit your viewing preference, so you get a clearer image and a more comfortable gaming experience for longer periods of time.” Sounds cool, right?

Hmm. It’s hard to take the images and text on this promotional page seriously. “Prepare to engage,” it says.

Would you get down with some visor action for gaming? Any interest in this?

[Thanks, Isshak]
