Sony taps New York Giants’ All-Pro Michael Strahan for PSP ad campaign

How do you guys feel about NFL All-Pro, Michael Strahan? Think he could convince you to buy a PlayStation 3 or a PlayStation Portable? Sony are banking on it, and are launching an ad campaign (set to air through January) featuring the New York Giants defensive end. If you’re not making the connection, Sony’s Peter Dille is happy to clarify.

“Using Michael Strahan in the title spot helps us convey the message that PSP is one of the most aspirational entertainment devices out there,” said Dille, senior vice president of marketing. “We know that celebrities and athletes are on the road a lot and travel with their PSPs. Michael and a number of his teammates are big fans of PSP so it was a natural tie-in to include him in the campaign.”

Seeing as how Imagine: Babyz is a Nintendo DS title, we’re not sure if we’re buying that celebrities are picking a PSP up in favor of changing a digital diaper. Strahan is no stranger to corporate ad campaigns — the Giants All-Time Sack Leader has pimped Subway sandwiches, Snicker bars, Right Guard deoderant, and Pizza Hut.

Conclusion: Dude’s getting paid.
