Sony says to expect slower PlayStation downloads in the US

Just as the video game release schedule heats up

Do downloads from the PlayStation Store seem way slower than normal? It’s not just you.

While Sony Interactive Entertainment initially said that it would “manage [PlayStation] download traffic [in Europe] to help preserve access for the entire internet community,” as COVID-19 spreads, the company has now adopted “similar measures” in the United States. It was only a matter of time.

If you struggled to download the Predator: Hunting Grounds trial or Resident Evil Resistance open beta, that’s probably why. (Side-note: the latter is “delayed” for the time being due to technical issues.)

“We will continue to take appropriate action to do our part to help ensure internet stability as this unprecedented situation continues to evolve,” said SIE president and CEO Jim Ryan. “We are grateful for the role we play in helping deliver a sense of community and entertainment in these very trying times. Thank you again for your support, your patience, and for being part of the PlayStation community.”

“Please stay home and stay safe.”
