Sony continues to amaze us all with their mastery of marketing with their recent talk with Reuters about the PlayStation Portable and the rumors of a possible price cut for the holiday season. John Koller, product manager for the SCEA, stated, “We don’t necessarily see the need to cut the price.” They don’t necessarily see the need to cut the price? Perhaps getting slaughtered in handheld market sales by Nintendo’s DS Lite over the past year and losing third-party support isn’t enough to merit even a slight drop for the pricey handheld?Koller continued on by saying, “We need to offer broader value and introduce new consumers to what the PSP can do.” With this, he also boasted that the PSP will have 110 new titles to add to its library before we uncork the champagne at the end of the year. At that time, the PSP will then have around 230 games in total to choose from.Sony honestly should write a book on effective market strategies. They continue to baffle us all with their hands placed firmly on the pulse of our lives… and our wallets, too.
