Sony says it expects PS3 sales to far outlast those of the PS2

If you’re lying on your couch at home gazing at the window daydreaming about how the Playstation 4 will play your games, auto-prepare breakfast and feed the cat, I have some bad news for you: it isn’t on the way anytime soon.

Speaking with T3 magazine, Sony offered some words in regards to the lifespan of the PS3:

“PS3 won’t celebrate its second birthday in the UK until March of this year, and we’ve said all along that the life-cycle for this generation of hardware will be longer than previous models. PS2 was still going strong after eight years, and with the power the Cell processor provides, not to mention the fact that PS3 is inherently future-proof, we see the PS3 sales curve far outlasting that of PS2.”

I have great hope for a statement like this — I still adore my PS2, and I can see myself feeling the same way about the PS3 as the library expands and I get more of the types of games I want to play. I could care less about the next version of the Playstation … for now. What do you think?
