Sony has finally responded to reports that the PS3 has been ravaged by hackers and left prone to all sorts or piracy (sorry, I meant homebrew). The company’s answer? Why, it’s Sony’s answer to everything — more Firmware updates!

“We are aware of this, and are currently looking into it,” declared a Sony rep. “We will fix the issues through network updates, but because this is a security issue, we are not able to provide you with any more details.”

To be fair, there’s not really anything else Sony can do but throw Firmware updates around and hope for the best. I wouldn’t mind if Firmware updates were speedy and Sony didn’t already release too many of them, but this is not the world we live in.

It’d be nice if Sony would just accept that hacks will happen no matter what and just let it rest. Since that’ll never happen I guess 2011 will be another year spent watching a green bar slowly trudge along my screen.
