Sony: PS4 will have the strongest launch lineup ever

Games will happen on it

Launch lineups are a big deal these days, and Sony is pledging its biggest release library ever with the PlayStation 4. Looks like it wants to avoid “GOT NO GAMES” syndrome early.

“With PlayStation 4 what’s exciting is we can see the strength in depth of titles come through — not just in first party but third party, and I really believe PlayStation 4 will have the strongest launch line-up we’ve ever had,” Sony’s Michael Denny told CVG“I think there are big genres that we want to cover but we want to innovate within them and move them on.

“This was the first announcement, it was an early announcement, and as I said this was really to set the agenda and to get it clear to everybody what those design pillars were for PlayStation 4, what the ethos is behind PS4, who it’s aimed at and getting the game development community on board.”

I may be in a minority, but lately I’ve gone off the idea of a strong launch library, and I feel the desire for one misses the point. I think I’d rather have games released steadily over a long period than squirted out at once. The Wii U had a strong launch too, but honestly I’ve had no cause to switch it on in weeks. I’d rather hear the PS4 is getting consistent support than a wad of software at launch.
