Sony holding MLB.TV free weekend for Father’s Day

Love to watch baseball with your father? Haven’t yet gotten him a Father’s Day gift (shame on you, you procrastinator!)? Well, Sony and Major League Baseball are hoping that you’ll consider buying dear old dad a subscription to MLB.TV, and to entice you into doing so, they’re offering a free trial of the service on PS3 this weekend, from Friday, June 18, through Sunday, June 20.

In case you haven’t heard, the MLB.TV app on PS3 allows MLB.TV subscribers to watch out-of-market baseball games live and in high definition on their PS3s. Other features include using your PS3 as a DVR to pause and record live games, and the ability to watch any archived game. It’s pretty sweet — but if your dad ends up liking it, be prepared to shell out $79.95 for a year-long MLB.TV subscription (or $99.95 for the MLB.TV Premium plan). Then again, can you really put a price on father-son bonding via baseball?
