Sony expands PlayStation Now subscriptions to the PS3

Coming next month

PlayStation Now has had a subscription service since the start of this year on the PlayStation 4. For $19.99 a month or $44.99 for three months, you can access part (haha, why) of the titles on-hand. Starting next month on May 12, you can access that same service on the PS3, with the addition of a seven-day trial.

PlayStation Now was a neat idea, but the pricing scheme is a major turnoff. If it worked on all three platforms including the Vita it would have been more enticing, but until it goes portable I’m staying far away from it, especially with a “limited” selection for subscribers.

In case you’re wondering why this is coming to the PS3 as an afterthought, Sony has pledged a 10-year support cycle for the console, which won’t end until November 2016.
