Sony exec: PlayStation Move was ahead of its time

…but it’s set up for a comeback with Project Morpheus

Motion controls were all the rage, until they weren’t. The Wii had its day in the sun, but that time’s certainly come and gone. Microsoft just kicked Kinect to the curb. And as PlayStation Move, well, let’s just say Sony put it on ice for the moment.

“I don’t think there’s a lot of appetite for another motion game at this moment,” Sony Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida told Pocket Lint.

“However, what we are realizing ourselves is that PS Move was a bit ahead of its time, Yoshida continued. “We were very excited about the possibility of using 3D positional tracking to make games, but it’s really hard to do so with a regular 2D screen.

“So now we are realizing that when we do Project Morpheus the one thing you want to do immediately is interact with an object in virtual space, and the one way to do that is that you need a 3D positioning input device, like PS Move.”
