Sony announces official wireless stereo headset for PS3

[Update: Sony has clarified that the headset is not just compatible with the PlayStation 3, PC and Mac, as well.]

There are few things more annoying than someone talking to you when you’re trying to play a game. I mean, shut up, I’m totally trying to fondle this corpse in L.A. Noire; I’ve gotta hear what’s going on to solve this case!

Sony has the answer: the official PlayStation 3 Wireless Stereo Headset. Out September, the $99.99 headset features 7.1 virtual surround sound, as well as a built-in retractable headset communicator so you can call little kids bad names as you snipe them in Call of Duty: Black Ops.

The headset will communicate with the PS3 via a USB Wireless adapter, so set up sounds pretty easy.

Aesthetically, I think they look pretty silly. But they also look  comfortable, which I guess is more important than looking good when you’re sitting alone on your couch playing Killzone 3. I’ve been keeping my eye out for a decent wireless headphone solution, and the price seems right.

What do you guys think? Interested in what Sony’s hawking, or do you know of better alternatives?
