I remember arguing with my co-workers about those (fake) PS4 videos that we saw last month. People were becoming quite heated about how it’s “too soon” to be talking about the next PlayStation console. I assured them that it was not. I insisted that they have to be working on a PS4 now, regardless of whether those videos were real or not.

It seems like they’re working on something. Sony Worldwide Studios head Shuhei Yoshida is already talking new console in a recent interview with Develop. They are “undergoing many activities that we haven’t yet been talking about in public. Some future platform related activities.”

“When Ken Kutaragi moved on and Kaz Hirai became the new president of SCE, the first thing Kaz said was, ‘get Worldwide Studios in on hardware development’,” Yoshida said. “So he wanted developers in meetings at the very beginning of concepting new hardware, and he demanded SCE people talk to us [developers].”

Doing their homework and actually including what developers want in the next Sony console is a very smart move. An “easier” PS4 or PSP2 would be good for everyone.
