Sonic video contest: Win a trip to Tokyo, meet Sonic Team

Sega is celebrating today, Sonic’s 19th birthday, in a big way with a new video contest that could have winners flying to Tokyo to meet the famed Sonic Team.

Here’s how it works: Over the next two weeks, video makers can upload a video showing their Sonic the Hedgehog love (no furries, please) to YouTube. You’ll also submit them to the official Sonic 4 contest page, and they’ll eventually be judged on creativity, effort, and entertainment. The ten best will be chose by Sega and will be shown on the Sonic 4 website.

From here, SEGA and Sonic fans will choose the best ones. The top two (one from America, one from UK) will each recieve a trip for two to Tokyo to visit SEGA Japan and meet the Sonic development team. Lucky! Others will win a 32GB iPod Touch and/or Sonic swag, which is nice, but it’s no trip to Tokyo.

“In honor of the nineteenth anniversary of our favorite hedgehog, we wanted to find a special way to thank Sonic’s fans throughout the years,” said Haruki Satomi, executive vice president of SEGA of America. “We think this contest is a great way to give fans a chance to express their creativity, enthusiasm and support for Sonic.”

I am the biggest SEGA whore on the planet, and a huge fan of Sonic. But somehow I don’t think I can play. I hope someone from Destructoid wins this. Please enter, and let us know about your video if you do. According to the rules, getting your video in the public eye counts towards winning. We’ll help you with that.
