That boy gets around

2019 is proving a busy media year for Sega’s mascot, Sonic the Hedgehog. Not only has Sonic appeared – and then disappeared – in a trailer for his first live-action movie, but now just this weekend the blue blur showed up in an episode of animated show OK K.O.! Let’s Be Heroes.

The crossover episode of the madcap Cartoon Network series aired yesterday and saw Sonic, alongside his fox pal Tails, show up in the OK K.O.! universe to help hero KO take on his nemesis, Lord Boxman. Amusingly, while Tails is a kind and inspiring soul, Sonic is kind of a bastard, which makes for some fun interactions, including some classic references, sounds, and a great epilogue, which I won’t spoil here.

If you want to track down the full episode, then it’s season three, episode 12: “Let’s Meet Sonic.” It aired on Cartoon Network Sunday, August 4. You can find concept art, music and other tidbits from the episode over at the official Twitter of OK K.O.! creator Ian Jones-Quartey.
