Some clown on TV thought the NES was worth $13,000

There’s this show Storage Wars on A&E in which buyers visit storage container auctions and then try to flip swag they’ve won. It’s essentially a b*llsh*t version of the far superior Auction Hunters on Spike, but the comedy gold that I’m about to share totally justifies this show’s existence.

In this past week’s episode, one of the buyers, Mark Balelo, got his mitts on a storage unit for $925. While sorting through the junk, he stumbled upon a rather banged-up NES and exclaimed:

NES-001, guys. I want you to look at this very carefully. This is the first Nintendo DS built. The last one that sold with five games in the internet for $13,000.

Disregarding the naming inaccuracy, this guy seriously believed that an NES could be worth $13,000! Why on Earth would he ever think that? You might recall a story early last year about a mother who managed to sell an NES and five games on eBay for around that price. Mark obviously caught wind of that story, yet he failed to learn that the reason why the price shot up so much was because one of the included games was a complete-in-box Stadium Events, one of the rarest titles in the NES library.

Oh, but the look on Mark’s face when he was informed that his non-working console would barely fetch a Hamilton was delicious! You can check out the train wreck for yourself by streaming the episode from here. The “discovery” is at the 15:30 mark, while the “reality check” begins at 18:30.
