Here’s how you know social gaming is blowing up: Zynga has surpassed even Electronic Arts in stock market value. According to SharesPost Inc, the maker of games like FarmVille and FrontierVille is worth $5.51 billion. This puts them right over the #2 publisher of games in sales, EA, with their Nasdaq market value total of $5.22 billion.
Look at it this way: EA’s shares have dropped over 6 percent since March 1. Zynga’s estimated value has doubled in the same time.Â
I…I had no  idea. I knew Zynga was big, and that they conquered Facebook and soccer mom mindspace, but to blow past a giant like EA with games that let you pay for fake crops!? It seems that Zynga has taken over about a third of the $1.6 billion social games market. Â
It’s so crazy to think that these strange browser games have taken a company beyond what was the largest publisher in the world for a long time.
