Valve has been working in the virtual-reality space with a prototype head-mounted display of its own, and by most accounts, the device provides an experience unlike any other VR demo.

The company brought another iteration of the tech to the Boston VR Bender this week and there are a bunch of photos from attendees for us to gawk at. Not shown in the image above is a desk-mounted camera, used in conjunction with the headset. Several of the other shots give a better sense of just how far down it extends. This thing is a beast.

For hands-on impressions, redditor jonomf has posted an account of his experience with the HMD. He says these units are used for convenient testing at Valve and are not a move away from the previously talked about VR demos which use a literal room painted with QR codes.

So I found some pictures of the new Valve HMD prototype from the Boston Bender on twitter. [reddit] [Image source]
