Less than a year after entering Early Access Alpha, developer Titan Forge Games and Hi-Rez Studios have announced that the sequel to the popular third-person MOBA, Smite 2, will be entering its free-to-play Open Beta on January 14.
It’s been a productive Alpha for Smite 2 which in that time has grown its arsenal of playable gods from 14 to an impressive 45. The number of game modes in the MOBA has also grown from just one to six, with a new mode called Joust launching alongside the Open Beta release.
During the Alpha, Smite 2 has also received a plethora of improvements and enhancements to the core game to really flesh out what Titan Forge Games and Hi-Rez Studios had envisioned for the sequel for the popular MOBA.
With the Open Beta release, all players will be able to download Smite 2 for free and jump right into the action.
More Content, too
Set to release at the same time as the Open Beta next week is an all-new god, Aladdin, the Sultan. Taking on the role of magical assassin and jungler, Aladdin also has a unique toolkit that allows him to call upon the genie to grant him three wishes over the course of the game: Come back to life instantly, Earn bonus Gold, or Reset all Cooldowns. Each wish can only be used once per game, so they should be used to change the tide of battle. With the new engine that Smite 2 utilizes, Aladdin is also able to run on walls using technology not possible in the engine the original MOBA uses.
Smite 2 is also set to receive another all-new game mode called Joust, a 3v3 game mode featuring just a single lane and side jungle caps. The Arthurian-themed map of Joust also features teleporters that allow players to quickly and easily traverse the map. According to Titan Forge Games, Joust is a great way to transition from the Arena to Conquest game mode without being too overwhelmed.
As a fan of the original Smite, I’m happy to see that the sequel has gotten what looks to be a tremendous amount of work on improving the sequel throughout its Alpha period. Players interested in trying out Smite 2 can do so next week on January 14 when it begins its Open Beta.
