Smash Bros. Ultimate commercial shows off a Stage Builder tab

Try to act surprised

Nintendo just released a new thirty-second ad for Smash Bros. Ultimate and it’s one for the books. On the surface, it looks like it was designed to sell lanky pre-teens on a special brand of self-esteem that only comes from trouncing beefy ginger boys in a contest of video games. It’s all firmly in the Everything Is Terrible wheelhouse and I’m here for it.

But what is this? Pause the video at the two-second mark and you’ll see that something new has been added. Though it’s a little blurry, the words “stage builder” can be clearly gleaned from the menu screen displayed behind the sweet, skinny-handed child.

Smash Bros. Brawl and Smash Bros. for the Wii U both had stage builders, so it’s not a huge shock to see that the feature may be headed to the Ultimate iteration of Smash as well. I just hope that trophies and tripping come next.
