Silksong already led Steam wishlists a year ago—here’s how the other top games performed since

Let's try to predict the future of Silksong's playerbase.

Silksong is the most wishlisted game on Steam. Does it mean anything for the future? Let’s look back at how other most-wishlisted games performed later.

I’ve checked Steam’s Top Wishlist games from Aug. 27, 2024, exactly one year ago, using the Wayback Machine. I wanted to see which titles Steam players were the most excited to put their hands on and, for titles that have already come out since, how many people played them at their peak and how many are still playing today.

Most-wishlisted Steam games in August 2024

All game information in the table below comes from Steam Charts data. Funnily enough, the table starts from the second most-wishlisted game because the first one in Aug. 2024 was already Silksong.

#6Marvel RivalsDec. 5, 2024642,33378,575

Marvel Rivals was able to retain most of its player base compared to other games on the list, with a solid 78,500 average players in the last 30 days. The game’s a multiplayer hero shooter, a popular genre, with Marvel characters, some of the most popular fictional characters in decades. The game is also well executed, so it’s no wonder it’s been doing fine and living up to the hype.

Monter Hunter Wilds is also still going strong and constantly reaches the top 50 most-played games of the week on Steam, with player count reaching 30,000 concurrents most days. Wilds is a successful sequel that converted a huge portion of its predecessor’s players in Monster Hunter: World.

Space Marine 2 is the final multiplayer game on the list, and it’s doing fine, using big updates to attract players back to the game every few months. Anyone who hyped it up has in the playerbase at least one reason to be excited to keep playing it.

As for Frostpunk 2 and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chernobyl, they are single-player titles that depend more on how attractive the interactions between players and the environment are, just as the case will probably be for Silksong. Frostpunk 2 lost a bunch of players, but since it’s on Game Pass, most new players will likely not come from Steam. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 has a big open world and an interesting mod community that keeps it alive.

All these numbers mean that the most-wishlisted Steam games usually deliver on expectations. This top five is keeping fans invested for months, has healthy communities, and good content. It’s yet another reason to believe that Sliksong, for being on the top of the list for at least one year, will also be a massive hit on Steam.
