Shirley Curry, also known as The Older Gamer, or the “Skyrim Grandma,” will not be making an appearance in Starfield. Shirley Curry is an — as of 2023 — 87-year-old, let’s play-ing grandmother who has attained a certain level of fame from uploading videos of her playing The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. As of this writing, Curry has amassed 1.26 million subscribers from a total of 2.1K videos, and doesn’t look to be stopping.
Because her online persona is inextricably linked with Skyrim — and by extension, Bethesda — fans on reddit have expressed disappointment that Curry wouldn’t make a cameo in the spacefaring adventure that served as Bethesda’s first new IP in 25 years. In an image post made by user HyperTyper, a redacted user on YouTube asks Curry if she has her own ship in Starfield, to which she responds:
“Well that game isn’t out yet so NO I wouldn’t think so. Besides, they never contacted me to be in it so I’m not. Also, I never will play it.”
So, that seems pretty definitive. Starfield players won’t encounter Curry while traipsing through space. And Curry, like many other players, will continue playing Skyrim until The Elder Scrolls VI arrives. Here’s hoping Bethesda decides to correct its mistake and honor the Skyrim Grandma when The Elder Scrolls VI reaches a more substantial phase of development.
