I’d nearly swooned when I put all this together for myself. It’s like Harebrained Schemes was designing a game just for me! Ridiculous narcissism aside, Necropolis sounds like it has the potential to be something special. Details are scant at this point, but this is what we know so far:

Your adventures will take place in the Necropolis, an enchanted complex created by the archmage, Abraxis. Contained within its walls is said to be the greatest collection of magical items and treasure the world has ever known. What better lure to draw in greedy adventurers than that?

It’s like an architectural Venus Flytrap; a self-perpetuating death machine that feeds upon the souls of adventurers unlucky enough to meet their end within its constantly shifting walls. All those who perish here are doomed to haunt the Necropolis themselves, refashioned into automatons whose sole purpose is to patrol these same halls searching for intruders.

Therein lies the roguelike hook: every run through the shape-shifting complex will offer new threats, room layouts, magical items and more. An interesting aspect of the Necropolis’ design is that it will change even as the adventurer moves through it, and there are areas that allow the player to “reroll” the current layout.

Necropolis isn’t expected until sometime in 2016, but even at this introductory stage it has earned a spot on my watch-list of highly anticipated titles. The beautiful art style combined with promises of roguelike randomness grounded in third-person combat sounds like winning combination.

We’ll continue to keep you posted on the game’s progress as it comes together. However, if you’d like to keep up with the game yourself, or just like gorgeous website design, have a look at the game’s official site. It’s quite fetching.
